What Pacquiao Said Straight After Beating Matthysse

Manny Pacquiao recorded a vintage win tonight in Malaysia over Lucas Matthysse to capture the WBA ‘Regular’ welterweight world title.

A classic performance and classic Pacquiao interview in the ring straight afterwards.

People everywhere, chaos galore.

Pacquiao as humble as ever though, said:

“I’m surprised (at the ease of the win) because Matthysse is a very tough opponent so that’s a bonus for working hard in training.”

On who he wants to face next, he added:

“Well that’s another story, another discussion. Right now I’m happy to go home now to my country of the Philippines and celebrate my victory with my countrymen.”

On if he’ll fight again by the end of the year, he continued:

“We are planning for that. We’re not decided yet but right now my focus is to go back to my country and of course, relaxing.”

One would imagine we’ll see him back in the ring at least one more time, if not more, based on that tonight.

Pacquiao looked sharp, motivated and powerful, as well as still retaining plenty of his famed speed of hand and foot.

He also showed he still has the punch resistance needed to mix it at the top-level as he had to take some big right hands from Matthysse at times in the bout.
