Teddy Atlas Makes Case For Lomachenko To Fight Mikey Garcia

The boxing world witnessed a truly excellent battle in New York this weekend but like always – attention has quickly turned to what’s next.

Vasyl Lomachenko overcame some tough moments as well as been knocked down by Jorge Linares to come storming back and force the stoppage at Madison Square Garden.

The fight saw Lomachenko capture the WBA ‘Super’ lightweight title and a host of names including the likes of Gervonta Davis and Mikey Garcia have been linked with the pound for pound rated star subsequently.

Renowned analyst Teddy Atlas said afterwards:

“There’s other young guys out there. Do you want to move up in weight if you’re Lomachenko at 140lbs to Mikey Garcia? This might have been a warning to him.”

He offered some decent insight into why a rematch with Linares might not be best next (skip to half way below):

While Lomachenko showed incredible heart last night he did show against bigger fighters that there is a limit to some of what he can do.

Last night also saw him become a three-weight world champion faster than anyone.

Even though Lomachenko has incredible amateur experience – it is important to know that he’s only had twelve fights as a pro as well.

Making his accomplishments all the more impressive.
