On the whole boxing fans seem to have been a little let down by this weekend’s world heavyweight unification that in the end – did not live up to the hype or carry much action.
This can be largely blamed for the referee not allowing the two boxers work on the inside when they came in close but that aside, fans have been voicing their dismay all day following an underwhelming unanimous points victory for Anthony Joshua.
Fellow UK heavyweight Tony Bellew however has come to his defense and said the following of the bout:
AJ showed last night that he’s improving with every contest. dominated an undefeated champion with his boxing skills, His footwork and jab were the keys to victory. Remember people he’s had 21 pro bouts! 21 ffs and he’s unified champion. He’s the best thing to happen to UK boxing

The above definitely contains some solid points, to be fair, but boxing fans are not entirely sold on Bellew’s take on the performance and fight:
What fight were you watching? He in no way dominated Parker. You could even argue that Parker won the fight. If I’m Wilder no way do I go to the UK to fight him. The judges are CHEATERS!!!!!

He just has no style though. AJ is boring to watch it’s like watching a robot and for that reason regardless of how many fights and titles he wins I don’t think he’ll be remembered like Ali, Tyson and Frazier etc.

@TonyBellew Please can you tell me where he improved last night?

Get out of his arse Tony. He’s basic and one dimensional. Embarrassing

AJ DID a job against a dangerous guy who was pretty intent on not losing never been knocked down record. Disappointed with Parker and I think he will be when he watches it back
