Rocky Fielding earned a big surprise tonight after beating Karel Horejsek on points in Sheffield on the undercard of Kell Brook’s comeback fight.
The super-middleweight from Liverpool won on points tonight and extended his professional boxing record to 26-1-14KO in doing so.
Fielding has always been an entertaining fighter to watch to be fair.
Only ever coming up short just the once as a pro to the excellent Callum Smith.
Now he’s positioned himself for big things however and has gone down a totally separate route to that of his fellow Liverpool promotional stablemate Smith.
After his win tonight promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed that he will be meeting American promoter Top Rank’s executive Carl Moretti next week in LA.
The meeting will be discuss making a Fielding vs Gilberto Ramirez fight for the WBO super-middleweight championship of the world.
26-year-old Mexican world champion Ramirez boasts a professional boxing record of 37-0-35KO and is one of the few top tier super-middleweights not currently in the new World Boxing Super Series format (of which Callum Smith will face George Groves in the final in).
What a cracking fight it promises to be if it comes to fruition. All signs are pointing to it becoming a reality quite soon.
