An intriguing world banatamweight title showdown looks set to be announced in the near future after further positive developments have come in negotiations.
Naoya Inoue is perhaps one of the sport’s top ten pound for pound fighters in the world today and now could be set to face WBA champion Jamie McDonnell from the UK.
His promoter Eddie Hearn said of the fight to Sky Sports:
“I’m hoping we can close the deal this week.”
Although the lighter weight classes can be a tough sell at the best of times, this looks like a genuinely exciting fight that can only end in fireworks given the exciting styles of both fighters.
McDonnell is coming off a ND last time out against Liborio Solis so will be looking at this as an immediate springboard to not only getting his career back on track, but potentially upset a big name in the lower weight classes in world boxing.
Inoue currently campaigns at super-flyweight but after cutting through all 15 of his opponents in the pros thus far, looks like he wants to move up in weight for his next challenge.
He’d have a considerable height and reach disadvantage against McDonnell if they were to fight – so don’t rule out the Englishman if they do.
It is thought that May is the time a possible fight might happen.
