UK boxer Amir Khan was on the receiving end of some rather personal abuse and verbal jibes today at a press conference that took place in Liverpool.
Ahead of his April 21st showdown with Canada’s Phil Lo Greco Khan received some personal jibes about his wife from the boxer opposite him today.
The result was Khan throwing a glass of water at Lo Greco and a near melee starting on stage afterwards.
Speaking to James Helder of IFL TV, Khan said of the incident and personal comments about his wife:
“I think it was getting a little too personal about personal life. Look, fine, talk about boxing. Talk about me getting knocked out. Me getting beat. But when you start going into personal life I think that’s just a bit disrespectful. I didn’t do it because I’m angry about what I did. I didn’t do it (throw a glass) because I was angry – I did it to show him who’s boss.”
Boxing is one of those sports where it almost seems nothing is off topic. Even though sometimes it should be, in fairness.
The fight on April 21st will also go up against the Carl Frampton vs Nonito Donaire fight in Belfast which also had a press conference to announce it earlier.
Although not as a controversial as the Khan presser today.
