Fight fans destroy De La Hoya on social media following comments he made surrounding the Joshua vs Wilder fight.
Oscar De La Hoya has appeared a lot in the media this week following a quiet spell after the recent Golovkin vs Canelo fight back in September.
An incredible success for De La Hoya, the American boxing great turned promoter is clearly smarting from the event’s success as he dished out advice for those promoting American WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.
Well, he didn’t have too much advice, more so criticism:
I️ promoted @BronzeBomber first 33 fights and made him a champion, if I️ was his promoter he would be a star and @anthonyfjoshua would be begging for the fight and not the other way around. #heavyweights #superfight

Whether or not Anthony Joshua would be “begging” as De La Hoya puts it, is questionable.
Joshua is a huge star now in the sport of boxing after all, worldwide. After Canelo Alvarez there’s not many more well known current boxers active other than Joshua really.
Also, it’s also not totally clear that Wilder is begging for the fight at the same time either – which De La Hoya alludes to above.
Following his win over Bermane Stiverne last weekend Wilder has been on the media march doing interviews pretty much everywhere in a bid to drum up interest.
Slowly but surely, it would appear Wilder’s popularity is increasing in America. Following De La Hoya’s remarks above, fans have been ripping into him:
33 bum fights Oscar..You’re the reason for his lack of exposure / popularity worldwide.

33 fights??? I mean, he should’ve fighting guys with a pulse after 20. Joshua fought Wlad f’n Klitschko in his 20th bout. I like Oscar, but you are a bitter, bitter man.

Lol….. You might want to keep that to yourself that you was the promoter for Deontay’s first 33 fights…. That is shocking and funny at the same time ??
