Chris Eubank Jr compares himself to military terminology perhaps as descriptive as any boxer in recent memory.
The IBO super-middleweight champion is gearing up for his latest defence this Saturday night in Stuttgart, Germany when he fights Turkey’s Avni Yildirim in the quarter-finals of the World Boxing Super Series.
It’s a fight that many in the boxing world are interested to see in terms of Eubank’s progression and development specifically.
If he’s improved as much as he and his father says they have since training out in Las Vegas this past while, it could show a lot about what type of chance he has of winning the overall Muhammad Ali trophy in the tournament.
While Eubank Jr was fairly emotionless this afternoon at the final press conference, there was one point where in a cold voice – he told his adversary of what he feels like ahead of Saturday night:
“The warship has landed. Fully equipped. Fully loaded. All artillery is coming for this man here. Heat-seeking missiles, torpedoes, gatling guns. The whole shebang. We’re going to see how long the man with the Baryshnikov can last.”
Following this analogy, promoter of the event Kalle Sauerland joked:
“I feel like I’m promoting Trump vs the rocket man (North Korean leader)!”
The bout takes place on ITV Box Office in the UK this Saturday.
