Teddy Atlas on GGG Canelo decision and pulls no punches with his initial feedback on the fight in Vegas for ESPN.
ESPN’s Teddy Atlas has been on the war path following the highly controversial decision and in particular, one of the judges’ scorecards in the Gennady Golovkin vs Canelo Alvarez fight this weekend.
Never a man to mince his words and always a guy who tries to call things as he sees them, he hasn’t disappointed in this regard again.
Teddy Atlas on GGG Canelo decision when asked his initial thoughts on TV straight after the fight:
“Corruption in Boxing – follow the money. No one else is going to say that in boxing and some people are going to be very upset. I don’t care if they are. I don’t care.”
He added:
“Boxing doesn’t honor the things that should be honored. It honors money, control, power and there’s only certain power brokers in boxing. Certain promoters and they have the power. They have control of who the judges are going to be, who the judges are not going to be. So who the judges know if they want to work, who they have to work for – in Las Vegas where the money is going to come back there for a rematch?”
He later got into a debate on air with Stephen A.Smith but before he did, he calmly concluded:
“I don’t give a damn about the promoters out there and I picked the promoter who is on top’s guy to win, but I don’t care if they’re mad and they’re angry – because the truth is the truth.”
