Naoya Inoue is not called ‘The Monster’ for no reason as his American debut opponent found out with agonising pain.

Naoya Inoue improved his record to 14-0 (12KO) this past weekend as he defended his WBO super-flyweight title in superb fashion on the aptly named ‘Super Fly’ card at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

The 24 year old Japanese pugilist put on a real show on route to stopping Antonio Nieves inside the distance – who just could not live with the pedigree and overwhelming force in front of him.

Ultimately, Naoya Inoue obliterated his opponent in six impressive rounds but perhaps one of the best punches of the fight came in the fifth – when he landed this sublime left hook to the body in an impressive showing:

What a body shot. How he got up from it is beyond me. Incredible toughness and will power to get back to his feet after that.

Nonetheless, the writing was on the wall a round later when the show was ultimately closed by the emphatic Naoya Inoue.

That left hook to the body shows the calibre of which he is now picking his punches. Almost bringing back memories of a young Ricky Hatton’s left hook to the body.

A peach of a shot that no doubt the rest of the super-flyweight division will be weary of going forward.
