WBO World middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders has a to the point and bullish statement for those who doubt him.

With Gennady Golovkin vs Canelo Alvarez fight week now well and truly upon us – it would be easy to forget there’s another world middleweight title bout taking place this weekend too.

On the same night in fact. Billy Joe Saunders puts his WBO championship on the line against Willie Monroe Jr in the UK this Saturday.

Saunders has been looking in considerably better condition in recent training footage and appears to be hell bent on chalking in a top performance this weekend, knowing that a shot at the winner of Golovkin vs Canelo could await.

Never a man to mince his words, Billy Joe Saunders has this message for his naysayers that he sent out on Twitter today:

Saunders has been plagued with inactivity since winning the WBO belt originally against Andy Lee. All the way back in 2015 at this stage.

He’ll no doubt be looking as this weekend as an opportunity to put all that negativity behind him, but faces a stiff challenge in the always skillful Willie Monroe Jr.

The bout sees a match up perhaps more of two technicians than punchers – which should make things very interesting from a purist perspective.
