The Eddie Hearn Carl Frampton fallout from when they previously worked together could be about to get reversed by the looks of things.
Promoter Eddie Hearn has made a subtle play to sign one of his old fighters – years on from some bitterness that may or may not prove to be an obstacle.
Two-division world champion Carl ‘The Jackal’ Frampton recently announced the parting of company with long time mentor Barry McGuigan and his family’s promotional company Cyclone Promotions.
Previously to boxing for the promotion, Frampton was part of Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Sport roster where Barry McGuigan was then his manager.
There was a very public Eddie Hearn Carl Frampton fallout at the time after Frampton moved on to surround himself more closely with Barry McGuigan and his then new promotional company Cyclone.
Add to this a little bit on, US boxing power broker Al Haymon was also brought in as an adviser to Frampton’s considerably large team around him at the time.
Following Frampton’s recent split with McGuigan it is not currently known what role Al Haymon is currently playing in the Belfast man’s career at present, but Eddie Hearn has now made public on Sky Sports that he is after his old star as a new signing:
“I am not going to lie about it, and be sneaky, or make a snide approach. If Carl Frampton is a free agent, I want to work with him.”
Following Frampton’s departure from Cyclone Promotions in recent times, we understood from a close source that he may have been looking to go ‘closer under the Haymon wing’ as we were told – from a managerial / adviser standpoint.
Whether or not this would interfere with Hearn’s interest in him as a signing to his promotion in terms of being able to have more full control over his career, is unclear at this point.
Carl Frampton currently holds a professional boxing record of 23-1-14KO and as things stand at least – is still a featherweight.
One of Frampton’s last meetings with Hearn face to face was before his bout with Matchroom promoted Scott Quigg back in February 2016.
Frampton famously referred to him as a ‘lanky c***’ in this video (hat tip IFL TV YouTube)
