The Valdez vs Marriaga press conference highlights from California. Three world title fights plus Shakur Stevenson.
This weekend sees a triple world title card taking in California. A genuinely good night for boxing fans to look forward to.
Particularly as we get ready for some mega fights over the coming weeks like Joshua vs Klitschko.
Oscar Valdez vs Miguel Marriaga for the WBO featherweight world title headlines. It represents a meeting of two explosive fighters.
Champion Valdez will have a stern test in this one if Marriaga turns up.
Marriaga has only ever lost once as a pro. That came to the respected Nicholas Walters back in 2015 via unanimous decision.
Also on the card is an interesting one at 168 lbs.
The super-middleweight division often gets talked about in boxing. But it’s current WBO champion Gilberto Ramirez (34-0-24KO) perhaps doesn’t get talked about enough.
An underrated operator not well known outside of hardcore boxing fans. He’ll defend his belt against Max Burzak of Ukraine.
The third world title fight will involved WBO super bantamweight champion Jessie Magdaleno. He’ll put his belt on the line against Adeilson Dos Santos.
Magdaleno was involved in a great scrap back in November against Nonito Donaire. It was on the Pacquiao vs Vargas card.
He showed an ability to dig deep when he needed to at times. Terrific talent to keep an eye on as he progresses.
The show is being billed as ‘The Future of Boxing’. Perhaps one fighter on it embodies this more than any.
2016 Olympic Silver medallist Shakur Stevenson will make his pro debut too. It will be against Arizona’s Edgar Brito.
Big, big things are expected from Stevenson.
