Parker vs Fury WBO Heavyweight Title Fight Set For April 1st

The much speculated Parker vs Fury fight now looks like it is on the verge of reality after the WBO President announced the purse bid split, location and other details on the fight purse today.

WBO President Paco Valcárcel, Esq. announced on Twitter today that:

“DucoEvents wins purse bid @joeboxerparker vs @hughiefury with $3,000,011,bout to take place on April 1st in Auckland, NZ, 60/40 purse split”

Duco Events in New Zealand being the WBO champion’s promoters – who won the considerable purse bid to stage Parker vs Fury.

A healthy some for a fight outside the UK or US, considering international TV rights, sponsorship and potential pay per view in New Zealand could be added on top of this.

Quite the coup to get a British fighter to travel to New Zealand considering how on fire British boxing is at the minute too.

It represents an intriguing fight between two of the world’s ultra talented young heavyweights.

It will give Hughie Fury the opportunity to win back the WBO title for his family, following his cousin Tyson losing the belt outside the ring due to having to vacate it for health reasons.

An excellent clash of skills, with perhaps the power edge going to Parker, with potentially the technical boxing ability slightly in the favor of Fury.

Fury, still only 22 which is hard to believe, now has his much wanted world title shot that his father and trainer Peter Fury told me that he would get this year.

Hughie last fought in April of 2016 with a points win over Fred Kassi.

Parker won the belt in his last fight via a hard fought majority points win over American Andy Ruiz Jr.

I for one am definitely looking forward to this Parker vs Fury fight.

Bring it on.
