Canelo Alvarez is training at Oleksandr Usyk’s gym before facing Christian Mbilli. The move is about adaptation, not alliance.
At least, that is a lense in that is appears at the moment, at least.
Strange though, Usyk on the decline, associating in any regard alongside non successful people is never advisable.
Poor move from Canelo, Joshua travelled to be alongside Usyk in Eastern Europe a lot recently to train also and looks shocking lately in his boxing.
Also Usyk’s promotional stable he started in Ukraine is terrible, fighters are getting beat and not going good for him, even though boxing is flying again.
Some notes on this;
- Usyk is also declining, so his gym is not a place to find answers.
- Usyk’s shaky showing against Verhoeven exposed how far he has fallen.
- Canelo is not there to learn from a fighter who is also slipping.
- Usyk’s camp is built for heavyweights, not super middleweights.
- Being around Usyk does nothing to fix Canelo’s pace issues.
- Usyk is focused on retirement, not helping a rival improve.
- Training at a fading champion’s base looks desperate.
- Canelo needs stability, not another champion’s identity.
- Usyk avoids young, hungry fighters, so his gym proves nothing.
- Being around Usyk only highlights what Canelo has lost.
Why Canelo Should Have Trained Closer to the Fight Location
- Canelo could have adjusted closer without uprooting his whole camp.
- His last fight showed pace issues, not a need for a new gym.
- The time zone gain is minimal compared to the disruption.
- He could have found closer facilities without tying himself to a declining champion.
- Extra travel stops add unnecessary stress to camp.
- Comfort does not equal readiness, and Usyk’s gym offers no edge.
- Canelo has struggled with adaptation regardless of where he trains.
- Staying closer would have allowed a smoother adjustment.
- The experiment risks leaving him unprepared for fight conditions.
- A declining fighter needs consistency, not a fading champion’s schedule.
Canelo is going to the middle East soon and must prepare to go back to the Middle East shortly.
This is not a smart move to be doing this so close to the fight later this month for Mbilli, could be a slight thing that benefits Christian Mbilli actually.
