Ryan Garcia made some remarks a short time ago after his second round victory tonight against Conor Benn in Las Vegas.
Garcia proved he had punch and speed still at 147 pounds but the fight had been over before it ever had a chance to get going.
A short time ago Garcia said he thought Benn had planned on putting pressure on him right off the bat in the fight.
And that they thought Benn planned on banking that he’d just fold as the rounds developed in the bout and that he’d get tired.
Garcia also mentioned a short time ago that he thought Benn needed to gain more experience at the highest level of professional boxing after tonight.
His long time promoter and former champion, Oscar De La Hoya, had been a notable absentee from the fight tonight.
Even though the erratic and in decline promoter had promised to turn up to the fight at the last minute.
Garcia said a short time ago that it had been De La Hoya’s choice not to go to the fight tonight in the end.
Ryan Garcia also mentioned he thought De La Hoya was going to actually turn up tonight and walk him out to the ring.
He said it would have been cool to see him there but it just goes to show the true rapid extent of the demise of De La Hoya as a high level promoter at this point.
It clearly did not bother him that much, as the second round knockout spoke enough in the Garcia vs Benn fight tonight.
