Curmel Moton Talent Faces Accelerated Learning Curve At This Point As Promoter Mayweather Goes To Rubble

The hype around Curmel Moton is real, but so are the red flags–missed weight, suspension and veteran critics warning his prodigious talent is being rushed straight into a learning curve he may not be ready for.

This happens in many young American athletes at times, not just professional boxers.

He had been the Floyd protege for ages but Floyd has gone to absolute jumping off of a cliff mode in his boxing career and life lately, to put it lightly, clearly at this point.

Some things to note on Moton on the above;

  • 18-time national amateur champion turned pro at just 17
  • Signed to Mayweather Promotions and backed by Floyd as a future star
  • Missed weight by nearly 15 pounds in November 2024, leading to canceled fight and indefinite suspension
  • Blamed commission initially but later apologized and admitted fault
  • Antonio Tarver accused Mayweather Promotions of rushing him, saying “They gonna ruin that kid”
  • Set to face veteran Albert Pagara in Tokyo on the Ryan Garcia undercard
  • Also expected to fight on the Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch undercard in September 2026
  • Has fought frequently since his debut with increasing rounds and weight classes
  • Richard Schaefer predicts he’ll be world champion within two years
  • Discipline, maturity, and handling top-level opposition remain major question marks

Floyd and Schaefer also of their promotion company have both gone missing from the boxing promotion sphere a lot in recent times.

Curmel Moton needs to get the heck out of there and stop being on the shelf because of them.

Immediately.

He needs to develop his fight game by actively fighting more regularly, plain and simple.
