Case for Haney has been proved beyond any shadow of a doubt now. US boxer Shakur Stevenson has literally gone running to Asia and more.
At a crucial time for Newark boxer Shakur Stevenson, one he had a new network in Paramount Plus, to sign a fight, he did not.
US boxing champion at 147 pounds Devin Haney asked him to agree to 144 pounds to make things easier for him.
He complained and said original terms had been not honored. He did not tell people in his social media rants the terms though.
Clearly one is a rehydration clause, something that negates the point of a 144 pound fight in the first place.
He is currently saying on social media he is in Thailand and Japan at present, literally running away from America, Haney and other opponents.
Some things to realize here on this Shakur Stevenson;
- Stevenson is in Thailand and Japan instead of being in America to sign the Haney fight
- He declared the fight “dead” on social media, blaming the Haneys for “clout chasing”
- He demanded a rehydration clause on top of a catchweight – a poison pill Haney’s team refused
- Haney’s team agreed to the catchweight, but Stevenson kept adding more terms
- Bill Haney had long said Stevenson wastes time – this proves him right
- He told Haney to vacate his title, then demanded he drain himself – a blatant contradiction
- The rehydration clause exposed he needed a handicap to face a bigger fighter
- He rants about others on social media while his travel shows where his priorities really are
- The fight was already complicated by promotional issues, but Stevenson’s demands killed it
- Team Haney now look completely vindicated – Stevenson was never serious
At the end of the day Stevenson had had one solid stand out name victory on his resume in the form of Teofimo Lopez.
A points victory earlier this year on a large unanimous points verdict.
Solid victory over Zepeda of Mexico before that also.
But he is clearly, clearly, as proven yet again, time and time again, not the new face of boxing like he keeps saying.
Far from it.
America is awake to what and who Shakur Stevenson and the planet is at this point after all this.
