The former world champion from the US, now a promoter, has had a rocky relationship promoting current US star Ryan Garcia.
Before Garcia stepped into the ring in his last fight with Mario Barrios it appeared Garcia was on the verge of leaving him.
That did not happen. Now De La Hoya said they have mended the relationship.
But have they though?
Points that supposedly prove it’s “good”:
- De La Hoya says they “worked things out” in a meeting.
- The fight is officially happening, requiring cooperation.
Why it’s likely bluster:
- Same cycle of feuding and “making up” since 2019.
- Garcia publicly denied the relationship is fixed just before De La Hoya’s claim.
- Garcia has repeatedly said he’s leaving Golden Boy after his contract.
- De La Hoya trashed the fight publicly — Garcia called him out for it.
- De La Hoya wasn’t even invited to Zuffa’s press conference for the fight.
- Classic promoter spin — downplay dysfunction to sell the event.
This has been going on for a while now.
As well, De La Hoya is still saying the Devin Haney rematch is the bigger and better fight for Garcia, even though the Conor Benn fight is now done for Garcia next.
It almost looks like De La Hoya is not even involved in making these fights for Ryan Garcia.
Did he have anything to do with making the Garcia vs Benn fight at all because it does not look like it?
Especially with Oscar The Goldenboy De La Hoya also feuding with in decline boxing promoter lately Dana White as well?
There looks to be a lot of smoke and mirrors here.
A pinch of salt comes to mind.
