Manny Pacquiao has been back on the pads and heavy bag recently and all be it a bit overly relaxed, there were still some takeaways.
Manny Pacquiao will be 48 years young later this year in December.
The fact he is still here and comepting at the highest level in one of the toughest sports of them all, professional boxing, is astonishing.
He is a student of the game and recently on the pads and heavybag you can still see him being very mindful of where his feet are and his distance are even.
Impressive.
He is a boxer who is measured more now a days in his training approach but that hand speed for a 47-year-old is still quite quick.
For a man who is nearly 48 years old later this year, he possibly has some of the same hand speed as people 20 or even 30 years younger than him in boxing.
Certainly at and around the 147 pounds weight class and above that towards 154 pounds or so.
Remarkable stuff.
He also still maybe punches with more power and force than boxers between 20 to 30 years younger than him.
A genetic freak but his feet are not as fast anymore on the pads or on the heavybag.
His gas tank looks a little low as well at the moment in training and is out of breath faster than usual.
A surprising thing for Pacquiao, actually, that.
Maybe that is why he has got back in the gym more early now.
Preparing or at least trying to for someone other than Floyd Mayweather next.
On the heavybag though if you listen to him still rattling off combinations there is more than enough speed to trouble many at welterweight still there.
The power and the sound of the shots is a heavy thud as well. He has not lost any of that power.
That, and his ability he has and experience he has at the highest level of the sport — make him a dangerous proposition for anyone.
In a now very weak welterweight division (although boxing is doing great) as well, it should be noted — for balance.
One that even Jaron Ennis has moved out of recently.
So, let’s see who Pacquiao tries to fight there or near there next up.
