Jose Valenzuela avenges defeat by brutal knockout

Jose Valenzuela was very impressive in boxing tonight a short time ago and came back in some style.

Comebacks in professional boxing and in all professional sport are always up there with the great stories that any sport, or walk of life, produces.

They capture the imagination of the general public and reach outside of a given sport at times.

Jose Valenzuela had been stopped in a fight previously with Edwin De Los Santos but ‘El Rayo’ put that matter right a short time ago.

Stopping De Los Santos in round 2 in some style in their lightweight fight.

In a rare battle of left handers tonight the fight started off cagey between the two southpaws.

You could tell both were respectful of one another’s punching power and it was a battle of the jabs early on in round one.

Jose Valenzuela took the centre of the ring for the most part in round one and controlled the distance and range with his jab.

He did get caught though in round one with a straight punch but shook it off well.

Overall the round was cagey, both were hanging back a bit but Jose Valenzuela took the round just for us.

Based on ring generalship, use of the jab and distance control and shots landed.

Things came to life in round two.

Both started loading up on big power shots with the left hand but De Los Santos was hanging back and missing with wild left uppercuts at times.

Jose Valenzuela came forward more in round 2 and started landing on the front foot.

Once he found his range the fight was over in a furious exchange which saw the Jose Valenzuela right hook close the show.

A peach of a punch.

He went 15-3-9 KO with the win tonight on Paramount Plus and big fights at lightweight are on the horizon.

He called out Shakur Stevenson afterwards but he might find the Stevenson defense very hard to break.

He would go into that a big underdog and would struggle with Shakur Stevenson to say the least.

Stevenson’s speed and foot work would give him many problems.

Shakur Stevenson is looking at much bigger fights as well.

A solid win for Jose Valenzuela tonight however and an entertaining scrap at 130 pounds tonight in boxing in America.

Jose Valenzuela is definitely a man in boxing with some momentum after tonight.
