What may happen Usyk vacated heavyweight belts

Now that Usyk has chucked his old heavyweight titles in the trash can he is the lineal heavyweight champion. What may happen to the old belts next? Let us take a look.

There are still prospects and contenders coming through in heavyweight boxing and this will be the case always.

Just like in any professional sport.

There are always new up and coming athletes ready to step in as older ones or more accomplished ones retire or not compete anymore.

For whatever reason.

The old belts could go to the likes of Agit Kabayel, Frank Sanchez and Murat Gassiev from the now defunction old boxing sanctioning bodies.

These boxers while being well accomplished in their own right with respect — are not known outside of hardcore boxing spectators.

These in the eyes even of hardcore boxing spectators as well, if you asked them hand on heart, do you consider any of the above three to be heavyweight champions of the world — they would absolutely tell you no.

Absolutely no. Not even close.

Everyone in boxing still considers Usyk as the main man in the division until someone beats him.

Or until he calls it a day or whatever. The term is known as lineal champion or ‘the man who beat the man’.

The above three names being elevated to supposed some type of elevated champions soon for the old titles is shambolic.

If that is what happens.

It proves why they are done now anyway and why Usyk chucked the belts in the rubbish bin in the first place.

Only the other day Jessie Bam Rodriguez also told the old belt organizations where to go and also chucked their titles in the trash can.

He is one of the best pound for pound boxers in the sport as well.

Let all that sink in.

As long as the best heavyweight boxers continue to fight one another on a regular basis — the belts simply do not matter.

That is all that counts.

The lineal champion in each division (one champion per weight division – the best fighter in each weight) and the pound for pound boxing rankings are more than enough for the sport of boxing now.

Usyk is considered heavyweight lineal champion in boxing at the moment.

On the above two things — lineal champions (one champion per division) and pound for pound — both are more or less what the people around the world want in boxing.

So that is what they are getting now in the entire sport of boxing.

The man who beat the man and is conisdered the best fighter in the division and is the one champion in the division — and is known as the lineal champion.

There is now only one world champion in each weight division in professional boxing and that is the lineal champion.

And pound for pound rankings rate the best boxers in the world regardless of weight division at all.
