A boxer police officer has been brutally murdered in brutal circumstances away from boxing and his policing.
Professional boxers dying in brutal circumstances is nothing new at all.
This has happened many times over the years whether murders or other tragic circumstances.
Now, a police officer who was a professional boxer called Daisuke Sugita has been revealed to have been brutally murdered in Japan.
Here is some information on him for those unfamiliar or new to the sport:
- Daisuke Sugita was a Japanese professional boxer and police officer.
- He held a pro record of 11-6 and was ranked #11 in Japan’s super bantamweight division.
- He worked as a full-time police officer while boxing professionally.
- He was found shot at the police station (驻在所) where he worked.
- The incident occurred in 2026; he was 37 years old.
Police officers dying in such brutal circumstances is nothing new of course.
As well, professional boxers have died in such violent and brutal fashion plenty of times over the years.
For those new to the sport, a refresh here:
- Vernon Forrest (former two-division champion): Shot multiple times in the back during a robbery attempt in Atlanta in 2009.
- Trevor Berbick (former heavyweight champion): Beaten to death with a metal pipe in a churchyard in Jamaica in 2006; his nephew was convicted.

Diego Corrales also died in a vicious motorcycle accident as well in 2007, the former world champion.
Boxing is flying as a sport and particularly now more than ever, rapidly coming back to the masses all the time.
Boxing in Japan is also doing outstanding at the moment.
Only recently Inoue vs Nakatani set records in Japan, so this is just one of those things.
It doesn’t reflect on Japan or the sport it all.
This happens professional athletes as well in any pro sport.
