Amari Jones tells Ryan Garcia that fighting Conor Benn is like fighting trash and has suggested the Haney rematch instead. Is he right?
Certainly the Devin Haney fight is five times at the least bigger for Garcia then a match with a guy from the UK like Benn who has done well in recent years selling out stadium shows in Europe, but that is not America.
He is coming back down from middleweight to welterweight to fight Garcia in theory but the Devin Haney rematch would see a welterweight world title unification as well between two of America’s big name young boxing champions.
Everyone wants to see the Haney rematch and the time is right to make the fight.
Some points on this:
- Haney was undisputed lightweight champion in 2022-2023.
- Haney is a two-division world champion at 135 and 140.
- Haney beat Kambosos twice, Lomachenko, and Prograis.
- Garcia vs Haney happened April 20, 2024Â in Brooklyn.
- Garcia won but result became a no-contest due to failed drug test.
- Garcia served a 1-year suspension from NYSAC for Ostarine.
- Haney filed a lawsuit against Garcia over the 2024 fight.
- Benn has never won a major world title at 147 or 154.
- Benn tested positive for clomifene twice in 2022.
- Benn has not beaten a current or former world champion.
At the end of the day all of the above speaks for itself in boxing.
Ryan Garcia has been attacking MMA fighters but he should be attacking Haney in the boxing ring in their rematch.
Amari Jones on his side fights tonight and is back in action in a world title eliminator tonight in San Jose in the middleweight division.
