Ray Savage Ford spars Shakur Stevenson ahead of the biggest fight of his life in boxing.
That level of preparation is outstanding. Stevenson is a world champion and considered one of the best boxers in the world pound for pound today.
Here’s what we know going into Ford’s title fight with Foster at the end of the month and some brief info on those new to boxing:
- Shakur and Ford spar 3 times weekly at James Prince’s boxing gym.
- Shakur mimics Foster’s shoulder roll and counters.
- Shakur has apparently taken Ford 12 rounds straight in sparring.
- Ford struggled with southpaws like Mattice.
- Ford is 18-1-1, 8 KOs
Shakur Stevenson’s timing, speed and defense is hard to replicate and if he can do well with him in sparring, land some shots and limit what is coming back at him, Foster will be a breeze.
Sparring is sparring but to spar someone like Stevenson is invaluable and he is far more than a sparring partner.
Foster is orthodox stance and Stevenson is a southpaw but the fact Ford is working on his weaknesses like boxing against southpaws, to bring in someone like southpaw Shakur Stevenson, shows you the level of seriousness he is taking Foster.
You can tell Ford is maybe in the best shape ever as his speed on the pads with his trainer and from training footage is next level hand speed.
Very fast.
He takes on Foster May 30th later this month in Texas in Foster’s hometown of Houston.
Ford himself is from New Jersey so won’t have as much support there but a boxing ring is a boxing ring at the end of the day.
