Something they do well can now be easily achieved in boxing.
The UFC are all in on boxing now and with Zuffa Boxing, TKO, Paramount Plus and their own websites and properties, that is now very clear.
For years UFC have put into contracts of fighters that they must fight three times a year on average if not for injuries and so forth.
When you ask fans how often they like to see the big name boxers, surely all fans would tell you they don’t like seeing them boxing only once a year.
That has made fighters inactive and the big fights in years gone by not happen as often as fans want and the sport needs.
Without fans there is no professional boxing or any professional sport at the end of the day. The customer is mostly always right.
There are exceptions.
Even if you look at how often Canelo Alvarez and other big star boxers were boxing in years gone by, twice a year at most looks to be the norm these days for the mega stars in the sport.
But there looks to be a change in that at the moment.
Not just because of the UFC promoting boxing either.
There’s a lot happening in boxing with everything changing and being disrupted in some shape or form at the moment. All great things.
Another factor that is true now not just for boxing but all sports is it doesn’t take a whole lot of time to sell or market the big fights or even notable fights anymore.
They are all selling out quickly now in the US, UK and in the East.
Stadium and big venue sell out crowds for big fights is the new norm now in boxing and this will only get better and better in the days, weeks and months ahead as well.
Because of this lack of less time needed to sell and market the fights you can literally fit more professional boxing events into the calendar year as well.
Giving more opportunity for professional boxers, prospects, contenders and world champions to box more than just twice a year.
Provided they stay injury free of course.
Professional boxing comes with hazards due to the nature of the gruelling training and competition involved in it but the above is very doable.
Surely boxers would welcome being promised three big fights and paydays with upsides on top of their own sponsorships, event revenue sharing and other income streams from streaming companies and so on.
More money than ever in boxing and for boxers as well.
With fans seeing more of the best fighters compete more frequently against the other best fighters.
We argue this can be more than achieved and in fact is already being achieved now.
It just needs to, and will be, done more in the days, weeks and months ahead.
The opportunity is all around now for the UFC to disrupt things in boxing even more.
Helping the good promoters and all the fighters, and all the networks and streaming companies, and the entire sport of boxing, in the process.
Boxing wins again.
