It was Josh Kelly’s weekend though in the UK who took the title away from the world champion from Russia and did so in some style it must be noted.
He decked the champion with a jab. Something rarely seen in professional boxing and seldom seen at the highest level of the sport.

But he also had to weather a storm in round 8 when he got dropped himself in a big exchange with a left hook catching him on what appeared to be the temple. Sending him to the canvas.
He got up however like all good champions do and finished the fight out to win on points.
It could have been very shaky for him after the knockdown but he got it together and closed out the bout for the victory.
He is the latest in the new generation of world champions not only in the West but in the East as well breaking through in the sport.
Interestingly this happening at a time in professional boxing as well where many former champions and legends of the past continue to have comebacks.
As well at a time where the UFC are now promoting boxing, more MMA fighters and former UFC fighters are switching to professional boxing more than ever.
On top of all the new influencer boxing shows, streamer boxing events and new major world championship cards happening across the East.
And more and more new governments and large corporations showing boxing than ever before in terms of sheer numbers of them now.
Josh Kelly will benefit from this success of boxing and will be part of it.
He will surely be mindful of his defense moving forward when in close proximity in the pocket within the inside fighting realm in boxing.
