So far former middleweight champion Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin since taking over some of the amateur boxing has divided it more than ever.
He is the chairman of World Boxing but the main organization that all the big name champions and fighters always attend events for is the IBA.
The International Boxing Association.
World Boxing for now will be responsible for amateur boxing at the next Olympics in LA in 2028 but Golovkin is still yet to properly work with the IBA.
It is Golovkin personally is the issue, not World Boxing or the IBA.
Gennady Golovkin’s lack of professionalism in terms of not being willing to work with the IBA more is harming amateur boxing ahead of the Olympics.
Golovkin looked to be under pressure here trying to sell what he is trying to do to recently retired boxing legend Terence Crawford:
See for yourself there.
That says it all.
Crawford didn’t seem overly impressed at all there, did he.
World Boxing can reach out to the IBA without Gennady Golovkin if they want to work with them more and more at any time.
For the good of amateur boxing and for the good of boxing at the next Olympics as well.
Crawford and the big names frequently are at the IBA’s events and Manny Pacquiao, boxing’s only eight-division champion — was even appointed the new Vice President of the IBA.
That says it all as well.
