The welter Barrios title reign in boxing has been here a little while now and some think it might be coming to an end shortly next month.
But will it though? He takes on Ryan Garcia on February 21st next month and the build up is now underway between the boxers.
Garcia is working still with his promoter Oscar De La Hoya who has shown an inability to make big fights lately.
As well as a continued inability to sign the best fighters in the sport. Garcia has indicated he has not been happy with De La Hoya as his promoter many times in recent years but both of them will look to end the welter Barrios title reign next month.
Garcia challenges for Barrios WBC welterweight title and will be fired up for the fight.
However he has looked heavy lately and his timing on the pads and balance has been off for us. Barrios however already looks very slim and very focused.
His title reign almost came to an end in 2025 with Manny Pacquiao — whom he drew with. The fight ending in a controversial draw was not something expected and most thought Pacquiao deserved to win.
That should have ended his reign right there and then but it didn’t. He will look to do everything in his power to put that right next month.
Rolly Romero defeated Ryan Garcia last year in a world title fight so Garcia should be motivated for this fight as well.
Barrios to some might be an underdog in the fight slightly against the well known Garcia but we don’t think you should write Barrios off. He will be more fired up than ever we think.
The two also have very different personalities.
The brash Garcia against the quiet Barrios could work for Barrios in his favor in terms of motivation in this one as well.
