Disorganized Oscar De La Hoya Fails To Get Big Fight Over The Line

Former world champion and promoter Oscar De La Hoya continues to appear to be out of sorts and in decline in boxing.

From his now clearly bitter ‘Clapback Thursday’ segments on social media to continually not putting on very good fights anymore.

To his main star Ryan Garcia wanting to leave him as a promoter more and more.

The latest has come now with De La Hoya not been able to secure the big Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis vs Vergil Ortiz fight.

De La Hoya citing that Ennis’ promoter Hearn did not pick up the phone to make it.

It takes two to make a fight and if both fighters really want the fight, somehow, someway, it will happen in 2026.

Vergil Ortiz has been linked to other fights but the Ennis fight is the one fans want to see really.

Golden Boy might not be done but here’s 10 facts why we think De La Hoya is as a promoter:

Canelo Alvarez left Golden Boy in 2020, taking huge revenue.

Ongoing toxic feud with Ryan Garcia hurts stability.

Failed negotiations (e.g., Ortiz vs. Ennis stalled by demands).Lost or uncertain DAZN deal limits exposure.

Public drama and social media antics damage credibility.

Ego clashes block big cross-promoter fights.

Fighters accuse him of mismanagement and favoritism.

Lacks consistent world champions or PPV stars.

Relies too much on past fame, not new blockbusters.

Outpaced by Zuffa, and Hearn’s Matchroom, and others.
