Boxer Asks Ref To Stop Fight And He Doesn'T

An astonishing moment in boxing this weekend happened when a fight should have clearly been stopped earlier.

Referees in boxing have a tough job and do a good job mostly but this one didn’t.

Quite clearly.

Shocking stuff this:

True disgrace, that referee needs to be reprimanded right away.

Renowned boxing trainer and pundit Teddy Atlas blasted the above in the Milas vs Shala fight this weekend.

Here is some information and facts on the bout this weekend:

Petar Milas vs Granit Shala — it was a 10-round heavyweight bout for the IBF International title.

The bout was held on January 10th 2026 (last night) at Rudolf Weber Arena in Oberhausen, Germany — on the undercard of Agit Kabayel vs. Damian Knyba).

Here were the above people.

  • Fighters: Petar Milas (Croatia, winner) defeated Granit Shala (Germany, defending champion) via knockout in round 10 at 1:29.
  • Referee: Timo Habighorst (the German official who became controversial for not stopping the fight earlier despite Milas signaling that Shala was in bad shape and taking heavy punishment — many called it a poor performance — even dangerous).

Alas, in the end, Milas ended up securing the title with a vicious final-round KO after a competitive fight that turned one-sided late.

The ending drew a lot of criticism online for the ref’s handling of the stoppage.

German boxing is flying high again but we believe Timo Habighorst must be investigated immediately.

Here was another crazy moment in boxing this weekend.
