Obviously China is a much larger, more powerful and more wealthy country than Japan but boxing can and should use the Japanese proven model soon in China.
Why?
Because it not only works, it is a massive success, not just in Japan either.
Sure, everyone in Japan knows pound for pound star Naoya ‘The Monster’ Inoue and his sell out shows in the country, and excellent back and forth action fights and power punching knockouts.
But it is not just him.
Many prospects in Japan, home grown Japanese prospects have sold well in terms of tickets and views online in big card many times featuring world championship action in the lighter weight classes.
RIZN have also done some stuff here and there as well with success, as well as M.P. Promotions of the Philippines (Pacquiao’s promotional company).
The Japanese Boxing Model That Can Work In China
What that actually shows as well is other promoters and fighters, and organizations from other parts of Asia, can roll out successful events in different parts of Asia too.
So, when going to the Chinese networks and authorities organizers can not only roll out the model that only has and is working very well in Japan at the moment in China, but you can show how international and other Asian promoters can roll out events successfully in other parts of Asia outside of their own countries as well.
Then build the cards with a combination of the following:
- Undefeated Chinese boxing prospects both from Shanghai and Beijing specifically
- Sell tickets in Shanghai and Beijing to start off through the local Chinese fighters, the representatives on the ground in Shanghai and Beijing and through government supported business ticket and/or other business outlets.
- Bring then major Western stars like canelo Alvarez/Ryan Garcia/Terence Crawford or heavyweight champ Usyk for the main events.
- Bring Western networks like DAZN and Paramount and Netflix if they are allowed in.
- Open up the baidiu search engine within China only through the Chinese government to English speakers two months ahead of the fight
to promote the event only within China on that platform. - Do one or two really big events, major star names, per year to start, maybe two is good for year one, both in the main cities of China such as Beijing and Shanghai.
- Chinese tourism, investment internationally in China and the sport of boxing worldwide wins.
