Boxing’s traditions and values are timeless and many of them translate to long standing training of professional fighter practices that have been proven to work.
Boxing while coming into new times for the sport in terms of streaming, new countries around the world showing boxing and new platforms and so on, doesn’t have to change nor
will it ever its steadfast, ironclad, time less traditions and techniques that work in the sweet science.
The heavy bag being pivotal.
Sparring — absolutely crucial.
The speed bag — essentially.
Diet — Its everything basically.
Listening to your coach, never complaining or talking back to them, never showing fatigue, never quitting and never surrounding and fighting to the death — if you really want to be a champion (remember this is professional boxing we are speaking about it, it is on a much higher level than the Olympics or amateur boxing, it is the hurt business), than, yes.
New Boxer Sports Science Can Look To Improve On A Grueling Area Of Training
Jump rope — staple.
Road work — it works — but…
Okay, we’ve left out a few as well there, but we’ve put an emphasis on the last one on road work.
Is there a way where fighters moving forward with all the access they have now to science and nutrition and repair from training sessions don’t always have to run the 10 gruelling miles every morning five times a week?
If there was a balance where fighters could still get the same gas tank and cardio and engine for their stamina without so much friction and wear and tear on the joints and ligaments and muscles that road work can cause, and the boring nature of it, could that help professional boxers?
Something to consult with them on?
Particularly maybe with the UFC PI soon available to some boxers, potentially.
Moreover, sparring.
Sparring is crucial but is there a way to save boxers more from leaving it all in the gym and everyday having wars and real fights in gyms behind closed doors when they are not getting paid big money to do so?
Obviously sparring partners are paid but not the big money, can sports science help in this area of training as well.
Not to do away with heavy sparring or long distance road work, just a few areas that may at least abet in the repair after them and the optimal execution of participation in them.
There is much the UFC and TKO can do in this area for boxers they sign soon maybe with the Sports PI.
As well in the area of health insurance for prospect boxers and so on.
