Roy Jones is one of the all time great boxers that ever lived. One of only two men to ever win the world middleweight and heavyweight title.
But he knows he is standing on the shoulders of giants when it comes to great fighters in boxing.
Muhammad Ali is the gold standard still to this day to anyone lacing up a pair of gloves.
His heart was unrivalled.
Roy Jones On What Ali Did In Foreman Fight
Speaking to Roy Jones on ‘All The Smoke’ podcast, Roy Jones said:
“When he beat George Foreman, everybody in the world said George was going to kill him. You understand me? He snatched victory out of the jaws of defeat. You know, when people thought he couldn’t, he did.”
Roy Jones knows his boxing. Obviously George Foreman at the time was a feared fighter, but Ali, like against Sonny Liston, had no time for fear or mind games or any of that rubbish. He just battered people and was actually willing to die.
That was his mistake. He could have done a million other things successfully at any time, Ali, he just fought on too long. He should have left on top like Mayweather, Calzaghe, Lennox Lewis or Andre Ward.
