The UFC confirmed a game changing streaming deal worth $7.7 billion this week with Paramount Plus that will shake up combat sports worldwide.
It marks a significant move to see less pay per views in combat sport and surely this will be the same in professional boxing as well.
With that being said, it doesn’t mean pay per view is dead and Dana White said you may still see some pay per views occasionally.
Turki Alalshikh, Dana White, Nick Khan and others have also formed TKO Boxing and the professional boxing industry looks set to follow with less and less pay per views as time goes on.
Turki Alalshikh Reacts From Boxing’s Perspective On UFC $7.7 Billion Paramount Plus Streaming Deal
Speaking on the X platform after the big news from the UFC Saudi adviser and fight organizer Turki Alalshikh said:
“My brother Mark Shapiro, great to see we share the same vision for fights and how our fans consume them. As I said one month ago with DAZN, PPV is a broken model and we must offer boxing events to fight fans at no additional cost.”
TKO Boxing has great potential this year starting next month to do similar things in boxing and shake up the entire system.
As long as fans see the best fight the best they will continue to watch boxing in their droves.
That and telling the stories of the fighters to the masses and using technology with rapid speed as it develops daily, in the daily changing fast past tech industry, will see boxing continue to rapidly expand now and in the time ahead.
