Technical boxing-wise and practically accessing a possible Ryan Garcia vs Gervonta Davis catchweight bout

Ryan Garcia after beating Conor Benn called out Gervonta Tank Davis but asked for such a fight to be at 147 pounds.

Tank knocked out Garcia viciously some years ago at this point and has been very inactive compared to Garcia, and, is much smaller than Garcia — a boxer that has made the move to 147 pounds solidly at this stage.

So, the fight is surely not going to happen at 147 pounds and can only happen somewhere in the middle at a catchweight, maybe around 141 or so pounds is most appropriate for all parties concerned.

Some points on this, technical boxing wise and more, if, they do intend to go ahead and try to make the bout, if it happens at all;

  • Tank carries big hitting ability and speed, even ring rust included, Garcia must be careful of his left hand
  • Garcia could make such a fight better for him by keeping the fight long
  • Boxing ability in both boxers might be similar, maybe the edge being to Davis
  • Garcia and Tank have not been at their best in recent years since they last fought, Davis poor against Lamont Roach in a stalemate
  • Neither have proven they are really 100 per cent focused on boxing but remain big names in the US and in boxing and the fight sells big, maybe bigger even then the Garcia vs Haney rematch
  • Tank Davis not long ago said he had been on the verge of signing a Jake Paul fight, that did not happen, but all things are clear for him to return and the money is there for him immediately if in fact he is interested in the bout
  • There should be no rehydration clause for such a possible bout, just like the last time
  • The Garcia right and left hand can both be dangerous and Tank needs to get inside and use angles and fast feet to beat him to the punch and get his shots off first
  • Tank can use his jab and feints to set up his rapid combinations that are faster than Garcia and get in and out and step off again and set up the next phases of his attack
  • Tank can roll under or slip the Garcia jab if he is on point and sharp to get inside and get to Garcia using his big flurries and combos but needs to be focused on boxing again, something he has not been for a bit
  • Garcia obviously is interested in the fight at 147 pounds as it suits him there and he has filled out solidly into the division but if he truly is interested in the fight he understands it cannot happen there, it must be a bit underneath that division

Alas, all in all, the Ryan Garcia vs Gervonta Davis rematch is still a great fight, a big one too in the US and around the planet.

Both have speed, are controversial, are erratic characters, talk the talk on social media and at press conferences and so on, both can punch also.

The Ryan Garcia vs Tank Davis rematch is possibly bigger even than the Garcia vs Haney rematch, it is that big a fight, so, it should make sense for both in theory.

If it happens at all though.
