Ryan Garcia ate a boiled egg at the final press conference to mock Conor Benn’s clomifene “eggs defense.” Security confiscated a second egg before the face-off, while Teofimo Lopez crashed the event.
Going into the fight tonight in Las Vegas both boxers have made the 147 pounds limit but some of the build up proved strange to say the least.
Some notes on it there briefly ahead of round one tonight;
- Garcia pulled a boiled egg from his bag mid-presser and ate it whole while staring at Benn
- It mocked Benn’s 2022 clomifene defense, where his team blamed excessive egg consumption
- A belt organization accepted that explanation in 2022 and reinstated Benn’s ranking
- Eubank Jr. already smashed an egg in Benn’s face at a 2025 presser, so there’s precedent
- Garcia had a second egg hidden for the face-off; security confiscated it
- Teofimo Lopez crashed the event in a fake beard posing as a reporter, then revealed himself
- Garcia said the egg was “a bit dry” and needed honey, making the clip more viral
- Benn stayed calm, saying Garcia “should worry about himself, he’s got enough problems”
- Garcia has his own PED history — an ostarine suspension and an overturned Haney win
- Media called the presser “bizarre” and “theatrical”; Garcia played to the crowd, Benn shushed the room and left
Conor Benn also you could say got a bit in the head of Garcia speaking Spanish and saying Ryan Garcia is not Mexican.
Benn has been very touchy about the previous PED happenings in years gone by, so that maybe had been Garcia’s method of getting under the skin of Benn.
Both boxers definitely do not like one another.
That’s a great thing, as, usually it results in excellent fights.
