Death and murder has often been involved in professional boxers and professional sport over the years, this is dark stuff though.
Professional sportsmen are often in crazy situations outside of their sport but it has been reported that an Afghan boxer Sharif Ahmadzai allegedly murdered a femlale from Scotland.
What Happened Allegedly
- Elisabeth Jane Ross, 38-year-old Scottish aid worker, found dead in a suitcase in an abandoned Athens building on July 18, 2026
- Ross arrived in Greece June 26, volunteering with refugee groups, last heard from July 15
- CCTV shows Ahmadzai allegedly carrying a suitcase from Ross’s apartment to where her body was found
- He used Ross’s bank cards to withdraw over 10,000 euros after her death
- He sent fake messages from Ross’s phone pretending to be her, then switched it off
- He also sent texts impersonating a jihadist claiming religious motives – police believe financial motive
- Coroner ruled cause of death as suffocation – replica pistol and knife found at his home
- Ahmadzai confessed to moving the body but denies murder
- Appeared in Athens court August 5, charged with manslaughter, robbery, and weapons violations
- His own wife alerted police after noticing suspicious behaviour and changes in him
Who Is Sharif Ahmadzai
- 26-year-old Afghan-born super lightweight boxer with a 1-1 professional record
- Fled Afghanistan in 2016 as orphaned teenager after his family was killed – father shot, mother and siblings killed by suicide bomber
- Walked through Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, then crossed the Aegean Sea to Lesbos as a refugee
- Met American wife Alaina Hall, a volunteer, on Lesbos – claims he converted to Christianity, married in 2023
- Co-founded charity Love Every Nation Athens, helping refugees with food, activities, and free boxing for teens
- Knew Ross through shared charity work – she volunteered with refugee organisations in Athens
- His life story featured in Red Cross video and upcoming book “From Hell to Home”
- Wife reported him to police after noticing behavioural changes following Ross’s death
- Police found his shared location placed him at Ross’s apartment on night of disappearance
- Gave wife €2,550 and new iPhone – she handed them to police, believing they were bought with Ross’s stolen money
The above is still ongoing and things are being looked into by the appropriate people at the moment.

As you can see, these events are not exclusive to boxing, they happen across professional sports.
