Roy Jones maybe right about Shakur Stevenson vs Devin Haney

Roy Jones knows all about moving up in weights to do great things in boxing so he is more qualified than most on this in Stevenson vs Haney.

Talks are now that Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney are discussing a possible fight.

But at a catchweight though.

Which would suit the smaller Shakur Stevenson as opposed to the bigger and stronger and now fully-fledged welterweight, Devin Haney.

Roy Jones has said Stevenson should fight him at welterweight though (147 pound) and no catchweight.

He is spot on is Jones.

For context, Jones is a multiple weight champion who is one of only two men in pro boxing history to win a middleweight and heavyweight title.

The only other being Bob Fitzsimmons of the UK.

So there is no one more qualified than Jones to say this. He said Stevenson should beat Haney at his best and so he should.

Just like in the old days.

When fighters fought anyone anywhere at any time.

The fight is being looked at for Stevenson vs Haney for 144 pounds.

Jones has said basically if Stevenson were to beat Haney he would have beaten a weakened Haney at 144 pounds.

That he would not have really beaten him then if at the catchweight.

That might be going a bit far though.

Roy Jones brought up when he won a heavyweight title when he beat John Ruiz he did not care what Ruiz weighed.

That he came in at around 200 pounds and he did not care if Ruiz was between 226 and 234 pounds even.

That same mentality can be applied here a little bit though. Certainly.

The only thing is though Devin Haney has only recently moved to 147 pounds with his win over Brian Norman Jr.

It is not like Haney would be weakened by going to 144 pounds at all.

This is something that US boxer Devin Haney could do without issue and it would not weaken him at all.

Although 147 pounds would suit Haney more, definitely.

Overall Roy Jones is spot on. The fight is a great one at any weight.

Shakur Stevenson v Devin Haney remains an excellent match up to look to be made in the sport.
