What a victory and performance for Jaron Boots Ennis tonight in boxing. He lived up to the hype.
The showing in his 154 pounds title fight with previously undefeated Xander Zayas was outstanding.
Here is what happened a short time ago in boxing results tonight in New York in the main event:
- Ennis won by seventh-round TKO.
- He knocked Zayas down three times.
- The first knockdown came in round one.
- The second came in round five.
- The third came in round seven.
- Zayas’s corner threw in the towel.
- Ennis stayed undefeated at 36-0.
- Zayas took his first career loss.
- Ennis got rocked in round three.
- He recovered and took over late.
- It was Ennis’s toughest fight yet.
- He now fights at a new weight class.
Ennis made the move to super welterweight in some form tonight. Powerful and sharp.
Credit to the heart and guts Zayas showed as well to get back up and fight on for as long as he did.
Early on as well — he gave Ennis some of the frights of his life so far in all his career, did Zayas.
Here are some options next for Jaron Ennis:
- Vergil Ortiz Jr. – The fight Ennis originally wanted. Big clash of undefeated stars.
- Sebastian Fundora – Tall, awkward southpaw. A major unification showdown.
- Josh Kelly – Skilled British fighter. Another unification opportunity.
- Tim Tszyu – Former champion from Australia. Big name and tough test.
- Errol Spence Jr. – Veteran superstar moving up in weight. Massive payday fight. He has to come through Tim Tszyu though on July 25th.
Ennis was just too fast and too strong tonight for Zayas.
His footwork and hand speed were superb.
He started the fight boxing off the back foot with Zayas at times but still connected blistering combinations doing so.
The left hook and left hand were very sharp tonight from Ennis.
Ennis had tremendous head movement on the back foot at times early on as well, he can improve on that though.
The speed he brought up with him to 154 pounds worked perfectly for him. The plan worked perfect.
However he did get hit a bit too much in the exchanges for us. He is not the best pound for pound boxer in the world like he says.
He gets hit way too often and that was a badly weight drained Xander Zayas.
The shoulder roll and Philly Crab defense at times were impressive and that of course comes from being from Philadelphia.
But it was nothing like Floyd Mayweather’s defense or anything like that.
As the fight went on he moved onto the front foot more did Ennis and pressed the actions, while still releasing his combinations.
His right hook even was very deadly.
Overall, Jaron Boots Ennis showed a great jab as well tonight and entertaining finishing instinct when he had Zayas in trouble.
But Jaron Ennis is not the best pound for pound boxer in the world like he claims.
He is definitely in the top 10 now of the Boxing News and Views pound for pound rankings.
Well done on an entertaining win tonight and credit to the toughness of Zayas as well.
