David Benavidez in talks for surprising fight that may not happen

David Benavidez for now is flying high in boxing after a big win in the cruiserweight division but is in strange alleged talks at the moment.

Benavidez’ recent big win over Gilberto Zurdo Ramirez up at cruiserweight established him as a champion there and one of the biggest names in the world in boxing.

In pound for pound rankings debates in the sport as well.

There was some talk that he could fight the likes of Dmitry Bivol back down at light-heavyweight but that is not confirmed.

Now, in recent days talks have suggested he is getting ready to fight Noel Mikaelian in a cruiserweight unification title fight.

While unification fights are welcome no one outside of boxing has heard of Mikaelian and this is a strange step back for Benavidez to apparently to be holding discussions with him.

A fight with Usyk at heavyweight or bouts against Dmitry Bivol or Artur Beterbiev back down at light-heavyweight would be far more interesting for the entire sport.

And net Benavidez far more money and would be great clashes of styles as well.

Benavidez’ relentlessness, high punch output and solid cardio vs Bivol’s boxing ability, Beterbiev’s monster punch power and vs Usyk’s skill and power (although faded after his close recent miracle win over kickboxing champion Rico) would be far more compelling for Benavidez and spectators of the entire sport worldwide.

Armenian Mikaelian is not even a big puncher either with just 12 punches on his record and has lost three times as well.

This shows Benavidez is in a strange place mentally to even entertain such desperate nonsense.

This is not the stylistic type of match that moves his career forward and takes away from his big win recently over Ramirez, whom he brutally knocked out in recent times earlier this year on Cinco De Mayo in Vegas this year in a big Mexican and American boxing weekend.

Jai Opetaia of Australia would be a vastly more entertaining fight for boxing in a David Benavidez match up as well.

He can hit and is usually in good fights and is based in America now too like Benavidez so the fight can be made easily.

A David Benavidez vs Dmitry Bivol fight would really establish who is truly the best boxer at 175 pounds as well.

Many are saying now online that Benavidez might not even fight the cruiserweight champion Mikaelian anyway, the fight apparently is dead in the water.

What on Earth is going on with David Benavidez right now to even consider such a low caliber of fight off the back of the Ramirez win is absurd and immeasurably dangerous for his tenure in professional boxing.

Who knows who he fights next but he needs to take a look at himself right now.
