There has been a lot of Usyk Rico criticism on the fight itself not of Rico but mostly at champion Oleksandr Usyk.
Well he’s the undisputed heavyweight champion and he’s picked a guy that has only ever had one professional boxing match as his opponent this weekend.
Sure, Rico is a kickboxing champion and will have weight on Usyk but that means nothing compared to Usyk’s boxing skill and experience at the highest level of pro boxing.
Some things to note:
- Usyk said “Rico is a great guy, it’s a dangerous guy”.
- Usyk said “Now I do what I want”.
That’s been his response more or less and he will speak a bit more this week and so on.
He’s put on a lot of weight and bulk for this fight and he has slowed down a bit, you can see it in his training.
But that won’t be enough to make up for the difference in boxing and kickboxing being entirely different sports and throwing a novice at one of them in with an undefeated world champion in multiple weight divisions.
It is almost like a grey area between a real fight and an exhibition, almost, this bout at the weekend.
But the shocking thing is it isn’t an exhibition — Usyk vs Rico is a real heavyweight title fight.
