Is there any scenario where Usyk can lose to Rico in their upcoming heavyweight title boxing match at the Pyramids?
It must surely be the biggest underdog in the form of Rico in the entire history of the sport and heavyweight championship boxing.
Much more of an underdog than Buster Douglas was against Mike Tyson in Tokyo in 1990.
Rico has had just one professional boxing match and is known as a kickboxing champion.
A look at some things going into the fight:
- Usyk will face Rico Verhoeven for the WBC heavyweight title in May
- The bout is Saturday May 23 at the Pyramids of Giza
- Usyk is a two-division undisputed kingpin
- Usyk became the first four-belt era undisputed heavyweight champion
- Usyk vacated the WBO title after beating Dubois
- Verhoeven’s pro boxing record is 1-0 from 2014
- Verhoeven said when I land my best punch he will go down
- Peter Fury said beating Usyk would be above all other upsets
- Verhoeven said Usyk has been clipped by Joshua and Fury
Sure, Usyk has been tagged in fights but so far he has got away with it.
The only thing is it is heavyweight boxing and sooner or later he won’t get away with it one one big heavyweight punch hits home.
It is just a matter of time.
But the chances of Rico being that boxer seem very slim at the moment.
Usyk continues to get hammered worldwide for the opponent choice and rightly so, he will be expected to knock out Rico surely in the first two rounds.
Anything less is a major victory for Rico.
If Rico were to somehow go three rounds or so, that’s a major victory for him.
At least Jake Paul had a bit of professional boxing experience recently before stepping in with Anthony Joshua (who was in decline as well).
This is different.
This is someone with just one professional boxing match stepping in there with the current undisputed heavyweight champion of the world in a heavyweight title fight in boxing.
Usyk has been taking his eye off the ball lately though even looking ahead to the Tyson Fury fight.
Let’s see what happens with him soon.
