The David Benavidez Mount Charleston camp has seen a change of pace a bit in his preparations and he is fighting on a bigger occasion after all so perhaps it was needed.
He has had a more militarized approach this time in training and will that work? We think overall, sure, it can do.
Perhaps it was a change of scenery more than anything with the same work ethic applied to his preparation as always.
He has been doing things a little different in the training camp from what we could observe though.
Training in mountain boots for his road work and training more at altitude up in Mount Charleston will have surely aided his cardio and potential gas tank on fight night with Ramirez.
The seclusion away from his usual more busy environment for his training camp may have added additional focus for the fight. That’s good. He’s going to need that.
The occasion he readying himself is the biggest of his life boxing as a headliner on Mexican holiday Cinco De Mayo weekend which is a huge weekend for professional boxing every year.
The pressure will be on him as the big name fighter going into the bout against Gilberto Ramirez with the fight taking place in Las Vegas and Benavidez being a Mexican-American.
Will his more military-ethos training for the contest with Ramirez work?
Again, overall we would lean more towards a yes on that as there should be no issues with making weight as well.
The only thing to be aware of is he has actually over trained but that should not be the case.
If he has the proper advise on repair in between training sessions and is on point for the fight mentally, the approach overall should be more advantageous to him.
Ramirez will be ready himself as well.
Roll on.
David Benavidez has had a good weight cut this time — let’s see if it helps him.
