Sure David Benavidez different Monster when compared to Naoya Inoue but Benavidez will have that nickname examined in ways he can’t even imagine in the fight soon.
Gilberto Ramirez is a different kettle of fish he will have dealt with on a live fight night all the way up at cruiserweight.
He has sparred with him but the punches will land with much more force on fight night with no headguards and the smaller gloves on.
Naoya Inoue is also called ‘The Monster’ in boxing and actually boxes on the same weekend against Junto Nakatani but Inoue has a little bit proven his nickname more with coming through maybe a bit more adversity in his boxing career so far.
He has been hurt more and knockdown more and got up to either win or even sometimes win in the same fight by brutal knockout.
The two are vastly different weight divisions of course with 122 pounds and 200 pounds being the approximate weight differences on Cinco De Mayo 2026 boxing weekend to factor in.
You could say one is a little monster and the other is a slightly bigger monster.
Benavidez’ nickname is more ‘The Mexican Monster’ as well whereas Inoue is just plain old ‘The Monster’.
In reality of course neither are monsters and are simply boxers in the big picture.
But there is a lot to play for on Cinco De Mayo for the two of them. Pound for pound ratings will definitely change we would be confident in saying before both fights.
David Benavidez if he were to impressively beat Ramirez should be rights moving higher and or into most people’s top 10 pound for pound boxing rankings.
At the same time, Inoue if he were to do a number on Nakatani, completely outclass him or win by strong UD or stop him by KO or TKO, should be rights for us go into the number one spot for now as pound for pound best boxer in the world.
Largely due to the current number one the heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk being out of sorts by selecting a kickboxer for his next title defense in boxing in May 2026.
This decision by Usyk leaves the window wide open for Inoue to go ahead and grab that number one spot.
But Benavidez can make inroads into the list as well and he knows it. Zurdo is standing in his way and is the champion at cruiserweight at the end of the day.
That ‘Mexican Monster’ nickname will be put to a test by a Mexican world champion in Gilberto Ramirez who if he is smart will use his natural height, size and strength advantages to his advantage.
And look to land heavy thudding hits from the off against Benavidez and lean on him and wear him down right away from the beginning.
