He’s done a lot now and has shown excellent boxing ability recently but let’s look at the big picture for a moment.
Who knows what will happen to Newark’s Shakur Stevenson this year amid a huge amount of fights happening in boxing at the moment.
He had an outstanding win against Teofimo Lopez recently, no doubt, and he is a multiple weight world champion already.
But would have really competed with the likes of Duran, Hagler, Hearns and so on back in the day?
Mayweather even in his prime or Pacman?
He competes in a weaker era compared to them.
We are not sure on that if he is Hall of Famer potential just yet. Not yet. He needs to fight the likes of Ryan Garcia or Gervonta Davis or someone to prove more and more.
Let’s look at the facts a minute.
12 shorter reasons why Shakur Stevenson is not a Hall of Famer yet:
- Only 28 years old with just 25 pro fights.
- Too early in his career — not retired.
- Limited title defenses and short reigns.
- Hasn’t faced enough elite, prime opponents.
- Mostly decision wins, low KO power (11 KOs).
- Fighting style seen as safe and boring by many.
- Quick weight jumps instead of dominating one division.
- No massive signature wins over all-time greats yet.
- Lacks cultural impact and big PPV stardom.
- Very few “wars” or memorable fights.
- Still building his resume — needs more longevity.
- Hall of Fame requires a complete legendary career, not a promising one.
Bottom line: He’s elite and on track, but needs 5+ more years of big wins and defenses to be a real candidate.
He is a defensive genius but needs to get in there against the likes of a Gervonta Davis or even a catchweight with Inoue or someone.
A huge name.
Teofimo Lopez is a shadow of his former self and has been in decline years at the end of the day as regards to his recent win.
Even the Lamont Roach fight is a great fight for him.
