Why Deontay Wilder vs Anthony Joshua Still Sells

Deontay Wilder vs Anthony Joshua

The weekend just gone at Wilder vs Fury was proof of it.

Deontay Wilder scored a split decision victory over Derek Chisora in both their 50th professional fights at the weekend just gone.

Both were past their best it should be said but gave some spirited scrapping inside there which was entertaining for most.

Chisora retired after the fight but Wilder has vowed to fight on and will look for a big fight next.

Before the fight at the weekend he walked past Anthony Joshua back stage who was in attendance and you could see the genuine needle and animosity there between both of them still.

Even after all these years.

Neither of them said a word and Wilder just blanked Joshua as he walked straight past him and Joshua’s could be seen clinching his teeth in silent but very clear to us anger.

Then, after the fight straight after winning there was a moment where Wilder said ‘Let’s do it’ as he briefly spoke to him again while passing him.

This time on his way out of the boxing ring and going through the crowd.

Both moments captured huge interest in the US and further afield online in some big viral clips even though very little was said in one and nothing at all in the other.

Clearly people are still interested in the fight even though both are much past their bests.

Joshua having been brutally knocked out by Daniel Dubois in recent years then taken six rounds with a novice cruiserweight professional boxer in Jake Paul.

Joshua however has been linked with a finally long awaited with one Tyson Fury this year.

But the build-up demand for the Wilder fight still clearly is there too — after talks broke down maybe nearly ten years ago now since it was first mentioned.

Joshua got tagged not long ago by Jake Paul who is just a prospect cruiserweight at best, maybe Paul is done as an active pro boxer now as well.

Deontay Wilder’s punch power when it landed didn’t knock Chisora out either.

Both can still hit a bit being heavyweights and the build-up would be good and you’d expect a knockout if they make the fight.
