That’s the saying ‘the power is the last thing to do’ in a fighter. Punching power that is.
In his prime when he was champion many believe Deontay Wilder to be the if not one of the hardest punching men in professional boxing history out of any heavyweight.
That makes him in most people’s eyes one of the hardest punching men that ever lived.
The power is always the last thing to do is a saying in boxing maybe as old as the sport itself.
How wrong it was though and who dispelled and shatterd, as much as magic doesn’t exist as a fact of life, Deontay Wilder’s punching power is nowhere near what it used to be.
That’s a fact now after that Derek Chisora fight.
Sure he dropped Chisora but there was no pop in his punches anymore.
Chisora’s legs had gone as well and was there to be hit like a punching bag with little to no movement at all for Wilder.
Wilder was even able to get Chisora to stand still while teeing him up for big right hands which often missed the target many times as well.
What’s more, when big right hands did land Chisora was still there and went no where.
The old Wilder would have got Chisora out of there inside two rounds easily.
Wilder won a split decision and said he was ‘healed’ at the weekend but you couldn’t fool us. That was a shell of what and who Deontay Wilder used to be.
If they put him anywhere near Moses Itauma or a young contender near the highest level he gets stopped fast.
He is still a big name though and very entertaining and tries his best but that’s about it.
His legs were gone as well as both he and Chisora fell down and slipped multiple times in the ring in what looked like WWE type moves and incidents in there at times.
An entertaining scrap but he’s done at the highest level.
He claimed he was ‘healed’ and that was his ‘prime’ but it was nothing like years ago.
That old Wilder is gone now and he is done, and, it is never coming back.
He’ll fight on though and look for big fights we think but he’d be smart to leave on a winning note note.
With two back to back victories in the sport no less.
Otherwise he’ll get hurt.
Badly.
That’s the reality of it.
The best fighters however never even show their best fighting ability or prime and always reserve it for if needed. Only on rare occasion.
Deontay Wilder will possibly fight soon again but not advisable for his health at this point.
It looked like after Wilder wanted the Joshua fight still.
Let’s see about that.
