Ryan Garcia won tonight but made mistakes.
He got the UD points victory over Mario Barrios tonight and did well in the fight. He did show some discipline in the contest.
But it wasn’t a world beating win and he didn’t stop him inside 9 rounds like he did afterwards.
He called out Shakur Stevenson after. Here’s mistakes Garcia made he can look at next up:
- Pulling straight back after jabs — leaves a perfect line for Shakur’s counters.
- High guard with occasional middle gaps — Shakur’s body shots would slip right in.
- Hopping along the ropes under pressure — Shakur’s ring-cutting would trap him there.
- Right hand dropping slightly after big shots — prime target for Shakur’s left hook.
- Less crisp exits when pacing late — Shakur thrives on capitalizing on any fatigue hesitation.
These are mistakes that Stevenson can exploit and he and Garcia won’t get away with against him.
