Why True Champions Inspire Beyond The Ring

Boxing and champions go hand and hand in terms of being the marketable thing in the sport, it is always about the fighters and the fights at the end of the day in boxing.

You look at the sport of boxing now, obviously there are some super hero figures in the sport like Manny Pacquiao, Oleksandr Usyk and Terence Crawford. These are genuinely all time greats that do not come along very often.

Some of the rare boxing talents in history of the 21st century.

You might come across the odd ungenuine Ukrainian for instance saying Usyk is his hero or something, but for every spoof artist there are genuinely lots of Eastern European young people who look to Usyk as an inspiration and role model – as heavyweight champion of the world.

Why True Champions Inspire Beyond The Ring

That’s a great thing for the sport actually to be able to do that.

Same with fighters like Crawford and Pacquiao inspiring the next generation in America, the West and of course Asia and the East as well.

With these super hero type fighters the next generation would not walk through the door of an amateur boxing gym and grass roots boxing gym in the first place, it all starts from inspiration from the great world champions usually.

You ask Usyk, Crawford and Pacquiao why they got into boxing and sure they will all have their stories, but they will always, always credit other fighters giving them some inspiration early on.

Most of the time.

It is like a cycle – champions retire – then the next ones emerge and break through.

The cycle of boxing.
